Joy
Every
day when my husband gets home he asks me how may day went. I usually shrug my shoulders
because I usually just get through the day and by the time he gets home I am
bone tired...A few years ago, I used to write on a blog entitled The Art of
Making a Home Joyful. It was a blog about my journey of creating a joyful home.
Most of my posts were about my struggles. Well, through the years I have asked myself that question,
"How do I find true joy?". I am often and easily discouraged and
angry and I often struggle with those
things. It's finally sinking in this thick skull of mine and maybe calloused
heart that adversity is an expected part of this life. We, after all, live in
this sin stained world. I'm coming to realize that a joyful day isn't a day
without its trials and challenges. A joyful day is knowing you have faced those
trials and challenges glorying in Jesus Christ instead of glorying in self.
What's that look like? It looks like the cross, remembering the relationship
you have between God and yourself, one of love, grace, and forgiveness, and
applying it to those around you. Isn't it a wonder that the 2 greatest commandments
is to love God and then love others? In this side of heaven, I don't think you
can have one without the other. I hope that everyday I can say to my husband that I've
had a joyful day :)
